Alaska had never been the most sane person on the planet. She'd been one to accidentally wander into traffic or fail to notice that what she was looking for was right in front of her the whole time. No, she didn't need glasses... She just failed to comprehend the little things, when she was too busy looking at the big picture in the end. And maybe this was why Alaska had ended up on the beach in thirty some degree weather. It was an unusually cold day, well, for California standards. Wearing a mere sweatshirt, jeans, and worn out converse shoes, Alaska was freezing. She was an Alaskasicle. Yet, she refused to swallow her pride and go home. Her dad had told her that she'd freeze, and she, being the argumentive person she was, decided to prove him wrong.
Too bad she failed to check the temperature before she left.
Her teeth chattering, she rubbed her hands together, pacing up and down the shoreline. The cold water licked at the sand, and she was about as close to the water as she could get without actually getting herself wet. For a brief moment, Alaska considered running up and down the shoreline, but then she cringed at the thought of exercise. Considering how out of shape she was and the fact that she hated running with a passion... Not a good idea. A gust of wind blew through the air, and Alaska's bangs fell into her eyes for the millionth time. Sighing heavily, she decided to go up towards the shops on the pier.
Making her way to the pier, she decided to shop around in some of the shops for a little while, maybe warm up a bit. After all, anything was better than standing in the wind like an idiot, freezing her butt off.

It was cold. It was painfully cold, for someone who'd spent most of his life in California where it was suppose to be warm and cozy, but no, for reasons unknown it was actually bitterly cold and Patton was at the point where he could no longer feel his nose. However Cristmas was coming and Patton knew his sisters wouldn't be happy if they bought him gifts and he was empty handed. So he made his way out of the house to the pier, where he figurd he had a better shot of getting something that Poppy and Phoebe would like. He walked into a store and breathed a sigh of relief when it was actually warmer than a witch's tit... a saying Patton had actually learned from his mother. He took off his hat and shook his head letting his hair unflatten.
"Freaking crazy getting out in this crap." He muttered. Okay he knew it was worse as you went west and north, actual snow and stuff, but Patton was a wimp in the cold. He rubbed his nose and shoved his hat in the pocketof his pants, looking around for anything his sisters would like. Finally he found something Phoebe might like when he looked over his shoulder, seeing Alaska... looking more than a little crazy. He whistled and waved a hand. He walked over and smiled. "Hey Frosty." He said, looking at her.

While standing in a random shop, mostly for the fact that it looked warm and it would help defrost her from her current state of being an Alaskasicle, Alaska had decided that it would be a smart idea to jump up and down for warmth. This, of course, garnered quite a few stares from nearby shoppers, but Alaska was oblivious to this fact. After jumping for a couple of moments, she could feel her near frostbitten toes warming, but then lost her balance and fell into a rack of clothes that looked like something a teenage prostitue would wear. Just what store HAD she walked into? Blushing, she stood up and walked away awkwardly, trying hard not to laugh at herself. She was quite silly, that Alaska.
Alaska heard a whistle, and turned around, curious. Seeing her good friend Patton, her face lit up and she smiled, a real smile, not one of those 'oh, great, another person to deal with today' smiles most gave when seeing a random friend while shopping. Rolling her eyes when he called her Frosty, she smirked and said, "You're one to talk, when you look like you're about to murder Mother Nature for deciding to torture us poor Californians." She as well was not happy with the cold weather, but she wasn't going to readily admit it. After all, she'd grown up in New Jersey and Maryland for thirteen years of her life; you'd think the girl would be used to this stuff by now. Darn California for making her worship sunny days and warm weather.

Patton rolled his eyes as she fell into a rack of what could hardly be called clothes. That was Alaska though. She was... almost opposite him. She wasn't overly loud or anything but she was... odd and she really didn't pay attention to other people. Meanwhile Patton knew he was overly consious of the people around him and he also had a lot of egotism in that he was sure they were al staring at him waiting for him to do something stupid for them to laugh at and he was always ultra aware of everything he was doing and what was going on around him because of that. He was always super nervous about doing something stupid and everyone looking at him and laughing. He didn't understand how Alaska was so comfortable with everyone staring at her and he knew they were judging her, he could see it in their faces. Poppy told him he was just crazy, but Patton knew he was just... aware. He shook his head and walked over to her to help her up.
Before he got there she was already up and had apparently noticed him. He smiled at her and shrugged. "I hate winter. I want it to be june." He nodded. He hated all of the winter months. The worst part was, his mother loved the cold she hated heat so she always kept the house freezing frickin' cold and if you didnt' like it you had a free pass to move out at any time. "YOu'd think of it's going to get this cold there would at least be snow. Snow is fun for the ten or so minutes it managed to stick." He shrugged. He looked at her again and shook his head. "You're going to freeze to death in that." He informed her, digging in his pocket and held out his hat. "doesn't like ninety percent of body heat escape from the head?"

As Patton helped Alaska the walking disaster up, Alaska accidentally careened into his chest somehow, almost knocking them both over. "Oomph," she muttered as she accidentally hit him, then steadying her accident prone self with the rack of skank clothes, Alaska grinned. She was goofy, sure, but you couldn't deny the fact that she was pretty amusing to watch most of the time. Glancing at Patton, she noticed how awkward he looked. While Alaska was crazy and didn't really care what people thought, he was the opposite of her. And yeah, she'd be the first to tell you that she liked to even crazier things than normal around him, just to get him to loosen up. But hey, it was all for a good cause... Right?
"You should just be glad you don't live somewhere like Canada... Or Antartica," Alaska said wryly, shrugging. "Snow is fun, period. Except when you accidentally eat yellow snow. Then maybe it's not so fun..." Alaska said, recalling a time she'd accidentally eaten a nasty bit of yellow snow. Ugh. It scarred her to this day. Rolling her eyes as Patton pulled out his hat, she said, "I have long hair. I'll just use my natural hat." Alaska placed her index finger to her chin, as if pondering something very deep. "You know what your problem is?" Alaska asked rhetorically, her voice getting excited. "You're too neurotic," She said, continuing. "And you know what? I should do something to fix this problem," She added, her familiar smirk spreading across her face. She'd been known for crazy ideas in the past, and anyone within a five mile radius could tell that she was up to something that was more than likely pretty darn stupid.
