You are invited to Ocean Springs 2nd annual Thanksgiving Feast!
Please come appropriately dressed and bring a dish for all to share.

An invitation was slid under Gaby's door as she crawled out of bed on Thanksgiving morning. She hurried down the stairs to brew her cup of coffee before noticing the envelope on the floor in front of her large wooden door. Upon reading the invite a smile crossed her tired face, and a flood of relief swept through her body. Ever since Justin left the holiday's have not been the same. Whilst others were out enjoying family time, she wallowed in her house with her children. This Thanksgiving she was planning on taking her children to a local restaurant for a thanksgiving dinner that she did not know how to prepare on her own (she never claimed to be much of a chef) but now she was going to attend the feast and try to reconnect with the community she used to be such a large part of.
Three year old twins McKenzie and McKayla Summers stumbled across their bedroom floor as they waited for their mother to come back upstairs. Little Collin of only one year of age, slept soundly in his crib. Gaby sipped her cup of coffee as she listened to the pitter patter of tiny footsteps above her, "the twins must be awake" she whispered to herself. She promptly stood up and began her day. She dressed the twins in matching brown outfits, woke Collin up and bathed him, dressed herself, and then made a quick run to the grocery store to gather the ingredients for her grandmothers infamous stuffing recipe. The invite said to bring a dish, so what could be better than some home-made stuffing?
A few hours later the dish was prepared, the kids were ready, and Gaby was sufficiently hungry enough to leave for the event. Gaby was always the first to show up at these things and this year was not different--she gathered herself and her children at a table and waited for the flood of people to roll in.

Skylar was new in town and only recieved the invite two hours before the feast was scheduled to begin. She did not know anyone in town yet so she depended on her children to keep her company at the feast. So she went up stairs and tought about going to the feast cause all she was going to do was sit at home and have a regular dinner because ever since her father died she had never had a real Thanksgiving feast with her family again. Thanksgiving was never the same again so she went and got a shower, dressed. After shortly her little baby girl Bella walked in her room as she was getting ready for the freast. Bella was relly confused cause her mom never ever gets dressed up for Thanksgiving. But today she wanted to be dressed appropriately for the feast especially since she didn't know anyone and she didn't want anyone to think that she was a slob cause she wears sweatpants and tanktops and day usally cause she never goes anywhere. So shortly after she was ready she dressed Bella and woke up brandon her 5 year old son and gave him a bath and dressed him aswell. Then Skyler picked up Bella and Brandon and walked to the car and put Bella in her car seat and Brandon buckled. Skyler started to drive to the feast. When she got there she wondered where to park when she found a parking spot she parked the car and un buckled Brandon and Bella and picked them up and headed to the front door and knocked.

While McKenzie and McKayla began whining for food, Gaby heard a sudden knock at the door. Since she was the only guest to arrive so far, she stood up and opened the door, suprised to see an unfamilar face walk in with two children, "Hello I'm Gaby, have we met before?" she questioned as her girls ran up behind her, "mommy we hungry!" they chanted as Gaby turned her gaze over to the buffet that was still in the process of being set up, "in a minute girls" she replied. McKenzie and McKayla both walked away with the promise of recieveing food shortly.

Skylar stared at Gaby for a while before entering in the door way with Bella in her arms and Brandon behind her. She gulped before saying 'Hello' back. Then Skylar walked around alittle and noticed that there house was really big and that her's was not to big. She had alot of thoughts rushing through her head. But luckly Brandon asked her a qestion or she would of burst 'Momma when are we going to eat ' he said with a smile on his face. 'Hopefully soon but like i said this isn't our house so be polite dear". After there little convo. she heard Gaby's voice.

Gaby picked up on Skylar's reluctance to enter through the door and immediately tried to put on an even friendlier demeanor, "Nice to meet you Skylar, would you like to sit with us today?" she questioned with a welcoming smile. A moment later Skylar's -assumed-son asked when it would be time to eat and she couldn't help but giggle at the irony of his request, "Don't worry, my daughters just asked me the same question. I do hope the buffet will be ready soon, it smells delicious--its such a tease" she exclaimed with a sense of humor in her voice.

Skylar started to laugh and said i would love to and her face was filled with joy. After shortly Skylar and her kids Bella and Brandon sat down at the dinner table and waited there patiently. Soon after Gaby came out with the turkey and mashed patoes. Skylar finally had something to be Thankful for all these years she was wondering what she was Thankful for beslides her kids Bella and Brandon now she relized that friends could be like family to. When all the food was set out on the table she wispered to her self well Gaby has two beutiful girls so wheres the father ?

Gaby was pleased to hear Skylar laugh, the hopes of becoming friends with this girl sky rocketed as they sat down together at the table. The chef called out from the kitchen that the buffet was open so Gaby stood up and brought the turkey over to the table since nobody else had arrived yet. She passed a few plates of turkey around for her children first, and then for her new friends before serving a peice to herself. She prompty returned the turkey pot to the buffet table, and grabbed the bowl of mashed potatoes and did the same thing, before again returning the dish to the buffet table, "Before we eat I would like to pray and give thanks to God for bringing us all together, so if you will please bow your heads in prayer" she announced to Skylar and the children, "Dear Lord thank you for bringing us all together on this Thanksgiving day. Please bless the food that is about to enter our bodies and keep us safe throughout the holiday season. In all of this we pray, Amen" she finished.

Skylar was un familiar with prying because her family did not go to church or pry before eating. But she was thankful was her saying 'thank you for being us all together'. Skylar for once in her life felt welcomed and was thankful for everything that gaby said and did. Skylar knew that her and gaby were going to e really close and she hoped that Gaby felt the same way. Suddeny Skylar heard a baby cryig and she looked around and notice no one at the table was. Skylar tried to agnore the crying but it kept on getting londer and londer.

After finishing her prayer she began to dig into her dish. Everything smelled and looked so delicious she could hardly wait for the first bite. Just as the first portion of turkey passed through her lips, little Collin began crying. She finished chewing her food before reaching down to lift him out of his stroller and into her arms, "This is my son Collin, he's a year old and quite fussy when he's hungry" she explained to Skylar as she began searching the diaper bag for his bottle. Upon finding it she placed the bottle into his mouth and he happily sucked the milk formula down. As he enjoyed his bottle, she watched everyone around her continue to eat, "So Skylar, when did you arrive in Ocean Springs?" she wondered before over hearing Skylar whisper to herself about Gaby's lack of a husband, "To answer your question: His name was Justin and he kind of just disappeared one day, leaving me to raise his son and my daughters...it's kind of a long story and I don't really like to bring him up around the k-i-d-s" she replied, sorrow in her voice.

Skylar said softly ' Im so sorry to hear about that but i know what your going though trust me my Ex husband was a druggy and one day he hit me and i brought it to court ever since Im on my own with my kids. But yeah i hate talk about it to in front of the k-i-d-s so lets drop it for now. after she was done talking about him she tried to change the subject anyway ' this turkey is magnifecinte' Skylar defferntally was upset talking about her ex-husband but she tried to forget about it for Bella and Brandon's sake. She looked over at Bella as bella was biteing into the juicy turkey and Bella looked over with the turkey juice drippng from her mouth with a smile on her face. Then Skylar smiled back as she looked at Brandon staring at Gaby's daughter Makayla. 'Honey' Skylar said while laughing your to young to look at girls as she was giggling.

Gaby and Skylar seemed to be bonding quite nicely, "Looks like fate dealt us both a bad hand of guys..."she said with a sigh before giggling at the turkey juice dripping from Bella's face. She then turned to look at her girls who were less eager to dig into their turkey, "It's OK girls, look mommy is eating it--yumm" she explained before taking a big bite of the turkey breast. McKenzie and McKayla tend to follow a monkey see, monkey do sort of thinking so surely enough after they watched their mother enjoy some of the meat, they both began to chew a peice, "yummy" McKenzie exclaimed as McKayla looked over at Brandon. Although she was too young to be into boys, she smiled as she began thinking of Brandon as a friend, "hi" she greeted with a cheesy smile.

Skylar smiled and thought to herself that the turkey was so delious she desided to have another peice. Then she looked over at Brandon ' brandon she said makayla said hi say hi back. After awhle Brandon stared at Makayla again and the said 'hi' back with a hudge smile. Skylar giggled again and then turned to Gaby and smiled as she said ' K-i-d-s do the cutest things.

Gaby watched the interaction between McKayla and Brandon closely, "They're supposed to be too young for such flirting" she teased before taking another forkful of turkey off her dish. McKenzie began to whine a bit as her eyes caught a hold of some brownies lying out on the buffet table. She pointed to them excessively as she pulled on Gaby's shirt, "mommy chocolate" she pleaded as she pushed her dinner dish away from her. Gaby giggled at McKenzie's little act of rebellion but had to be the bearer of bad news, "eat your turkey, then you can have dessert" she instructed before turning back to Skylar, "Kids sure do the cutest things, but they also do the silliest things--dessert before dinner, apparently that is only acceptable in three year old land, haha" she joked before pushing McKenzies dinner plate back toward her.

Skylar giggled as Bella started to whine because well now she wanted a brownies as well as Makenzie did.' Mommy can i please a little peice of the brownie i promise ill eat my dinner after wards'. 'Okay but only a little peice but you better eat all your turkey on your plate too'. Skylar stood up and pushed her chair out and headed to the brownies on the desert table. She cut a tinny peice of brownie and sat it on Bella's plate. As soon as she knew it Brandon wanted a peice as well.' So she went over to brandon and grab his plate and put a small peice of brownie on his plate as well. Finally Skylar got to sit down again. 'So Gaby if you dont mind me asking are your kids home-schooled?

As Gaby followed Skylar to the dessert table she looked back at all the children sitting around the table and she began thinking about how fortunate they all were to be surrounded by their families and new friends on this fine Thanksgiving afternoon. While at the dessert table she cut a slab of brownie for McKenzie, McKayla, and herself (Collin was too young) before returning to the table. She smiled as she passed out the dessert and then Skylar caught her attention. Home schooled?, "No they are only three year olds, they are not old enough for school yet, but when they are in a few years I plan on enrolling them in a regular public school here, or wherever else we find ourselves when the time comes." she replied, an ounce of shock in her voice. The twins were too young for school, did Skylar really think they were that old? Gaby silently questioned Skylar's judgement a bit before asking her own question, "How old is Brandon anyway?"
