Night time at the beach was one of Baby's favorite times. The moon reflected off the water, bonfires raged and it was just generally fun. Of course it wasn't as much fun alone, but Sebastian was off with whoever and Annabelle had some family thing that Baby didn't really care enough to ask about. So she was flying solo that night.
She walked along the water, holding a cigarette in one hand the other wrapped around her, trying to keep her warm. The fact that she wore shorts, which revealed her long, pale legs didn't really help. She sniffed and took another drag from the cigarette as she walked along, the wind ruffling her blonde hair.
"Okay in retrospect, I should have worn full length pants." She muttered, taking another drag and blowing the smoke into the air.

Scout Chandler absolutely hated California. For one, it was far too cold, which she was learning miserably, and for another, everyone talked funny. In the week that she had been in Ocean Springs, she was missing Austrailia more and more with each passing second. True, she was living with her cousins, Julianne and Claire, in a very nice place, far nicer than her house back home, and she got to live near the beach, and already knew some people, but to Scout, that didn't matter. She just wanted to be home. And the closest thing to home in California? The beach.
Scout made her way down the beach, clad in shorts and a plain tank top, around the bonfires, the moonlight shining above her. Normally, Scout would've enjoyed this, but she was too busy freezing her ass off to notice the beautiful scenery. "Holy fuck. It's darn cold!" Scout muttered to herself in her accent. She was starting to wish she had taken Julianne's jacket earlier when Jules had offered, before she and Claire went to some party.
Finally sitting down by the cold water, Scout took out a piece of banana flavored gum, and sniffed the air. She smelled the vague scent of smoke, which was surprising considering the fact that she was away from all of the bonfires. Then she heard a girl talking, and Scout realized she wasn't alone. Figuring she should say hi, Scout opened her mouth and said, "Hey... I'm Scout. in her accent.

Baby kept walked, nearly tripping over herself when she heard a voice. she was under the impression everyone was up by the bonfires, keeping warm and whatnot. She looked down at a girl with blonde hair and half attempted a smile. "Hey, Baby." She didn't bother to clarify that her name was Baby she wasn't calling the other girl Baby. She liked her name, and even more than that she liked when people got weirded out that the scrawny blonde chick was using terms of endearment.
Baby finished her cigarette and pulled her flip flip out of her jacket pocket to put it out. From another pocket came a plastic bag, which she dropped the butt in and her pack of cigarettes and light. "Want one?" She offere the pack out, lighting the one in her mouth. The ones she had now weren't strong and they burned pink smoke. They had been a gift from her grandmother, who believed you should be able to smoke whatever you want at whatever age you want. So her hobby was to buy Baby interesting packs of cigarettes.
Baby looked down at the girl and dug her bare toe into the cold sand.

Since Scout was guessing that the girl's name was Baby, she decided not to get all freaked out. Having a strange name always helped in situations like this, as Scout had come to learn over the years. Scout nodded when the girl, Baby, held out a cigarette, and grabbed one. "Got a lighter?" Scout asked, realizing that she didn't have one. She supposed that she could stick it in one of the bonfires, but Scout didn't really plan on burning her hand off. The cold water hit her feet, and Scout shivered. She was freezing, and was beginning to hate California more and more. The cold weather was a major factor in her hatred too.
"Dammit. I hate this cold weather. I miss Austrailia," Scout said, half to herself, half to Baby. Twirling a strand of her straight blonde hair, and running it through her fingers, she also noted that her hair was a little less frizzy here, than back home. She supposed that was possibly the only good thing of living here.

Baby nodded, holding out her lighter and plopped down in the sand next to Scout. "They're aren't that strong, but hell if they don't look cool." she blew pink smoke rings into the air to accentuate her point. Also she proved she had too much time on her hands, since she taught herself to do smoke rings. She took another puff and looked at the girl.
"It's November, night and you're at the beach catching the wind over the ocean. Of course it's cold." She nodded, tucking her hair out of her way. She sniffed again and wrapped her free arm back over her stomach. "And the tank top probably isn't very warm either." She added.

Scout grinned at the pink smoke. "Dang, these have to be just about the coolest cigarettes ever," Scout said, taking a drag of it, the pink smoke clouding around her face. True, they weren't the best tasting, but the pink smoke made up for that. It was just cool to look at. Taking another drag of the cigarette, more pink smoke clouding around her face, she blew a few smoke rings. Digging her toes in the cold, clammy sand, she made a face at the sliminess of it.
"True. But I thought that California was supposed to be warm... Not this fucking cold," Scout defended herself. "And this has to be the thinnest tank top I have. Just my luck, eh?" Scout added, tugging at the hem of her shirt. Oh well, at least I look hot, Scout thought to herself. Sometimes you had to freeze youself to death just to look good.

"No fugging idea where my grams got them, but apparently it wasn't Australia." Baby noted, leaning back on one elbow. She took another drag. "So you're new. Claire's cousin or whatever right?" Baby knew Claire, and vaguely recalled something about a cousin, or maybe Sebastian said it, coming from Jules. Baby honestly had no idea.
Baby sat up to inspect a purple spot on her leg. Paint, it was slaptered up her arms and even on her chest. She had no idea how it got on her leg. She shrugged and leaned back again. "It is, when the sun is up, in the summertime you could melt, but it's getting cooler. Not overly cold, especially if you compare it to lie... alaska..." She shrugged.

"Hey, Australia has some danm good cigarettes," Scout said, poking Baby. "And yes, I'm the freaky new girl. Take a good look, dunno how long I'll be here before I decide to pull a disappearing act again. And Claire and Julianne are my cousins. Lucky me, living in a house with pretty much super models. Joy, joy." Scout said, rolling her eyes. She didn't get along too great with her cousins, and generally tried to stay out of their way, knowing that Julianne was too sensitive for Scout's sarcastic remarks, and that Claire was... Claire, crazy and far too stubborn for her own good, and would probably continuously butt heads with Scout.
"If I lived in Alaska, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't last five minutes before booking it and heading below the equator again," Scout replied. "I've been deprived of the snow experience for fifteen years, and I'm pretty sure I can live without it," Scout said, running a hand through her hair.

"Well then freaky new girl, meet freaky old girl." Baby grinned. "So you've run away before? What's the farthest you've gotten?" She asked. Baby had a habit of running away just to see where she could get before her mom called asking where the hell she was. Sure they weren't rolling in cough, but grams was, and grams often sent money just because she had no idea when her granddaughter's birthday was.
"I'd like to see Alaska sometime... and what part of Australia are you rom? it gets cold there, at least that's what I've been told and what I've researched. Had a project to do on 'the great land down under'..."[/b] Baby ignored the fact that she'd stolen the title of her porject from a porn that her neighbor had hidden in his basement, not realizing that for about two months, that mox was pressed against the little window.

"I've gotten as far as halfway to New York before someone actually realized the fact that I was gone. What bout you, old girl? You done anything like that?" Scout asked, laying back on the sand. Despite the fact that it was slightly uncomfortable and sand was going up her shirt, and the whole backside of her white tank top was probably see through by now, Scout enjoyed laying on the sand. She had long finished her funky cigarette, and the smoke stench clung to her clothes. Closing her eyes for a minute, Scout thought about all of the times she had run away, due to her screwing up constantly.
Sitting back up, Scout pulled her knees up to her chest. "I'm from Sydney, best place in the world, I swear to God," Scout replied, a wave of homesickness washing over her. Decideing not to dwell on the fact that she wanted to go home, she glanced up at the moon, shining brightly above her.

Baby shrugged. "Got to Russia once. Kat had thought I went to camp." she had planned on going, but ended up on a different plane instead. "My grams came to get me. She was in France at the time." She finished the cigarette, putting it out on the shoe and shoving the butt into the plastic bag. "Russia is cold as hell too." She nodded.
"My dad sent me a postcard from Sydney... once..." She ran her tongue over her teeth. "so New girl, got a curfew?" She asked, getting up, unzipping her hoodie the second it dropped from her shoulders her arms broke out in goose bumps.

Scout made a face. "Obvivously I won't be going to Russia anytime soon," She said, cringing at the word 'cold'. "Been to France once. Paris. It was confusing as hell. I didn't know a lick of French," Scout said, recalling the confusing time back when she was thirteen. Tracing circles in the sand, she watched as the water lapped up the images, making the disappear, as if they had never been there in the first place. For some reason, that annoyed the hell out of Scout, and she rolled her eyes. Scout had way too many pet peeves.
"As of now, the new girl has no curfew. Shit, I don't think that my aunt and uncle even aknoleged my presence at dinner. Bet if I stayed out all night, they wouldn't even notice. Which I suppose could be a good thing," Scout said, with a sigh. "Why ya ask?" She added.

Baby smiled, running out into the water. She did a cartwheel and nearly fell over. A few people turned to watch as she turned another haphazard cartwheel and ran out of the water. "That'll wake you up." She picked her jacket up. she grinned at Scout and looked to the bonfires.
"I'll tell you that after another question. Ever danced drunkenly around a bonfire with a bunch of californian guys?" Okay, so sometimes Baby could be totally off her rocker, she got it from her Grams. She quirked an eyebrow at Scout and did a cartwheel, cursing when her lighter fell out of her pocket. She grabbed the lighter and shoved it in her shorts pocket.

Scout grinned, and ran into the water, and did a back hand spring. Six years of cheeleading certainly helped. Scout's now wet hair hung down her back, and her shirt clung heavily to her chest. She probably looked strange, but she didn't care. Getting a running start, she did two cartwheels, and ended with a backflip. Too bad she lost her balance, and ended up falling into the water. Coming back up, from under the water, she started laughing. Her very sucky night had suddenly turned into a lot of fun.
Walking back over to Baby, she thought for a minute. "Somewhat. Drunken dancing with bonfires, yes, but with Austrailan guys, not Californian. Why, are you hinting at something?" Scout asked, with a grin.

Baby grinned and took Scout's wrist, leading her to a bonfire. Surronding it were a bunch of college students. "Told you I'd be back." She told them, sticking her tongue out at one. They cheered and turned up the music. Fall out boy pumped through the cd player and the bonfire next to them, which was occupied by a couple of families, glared at them.
Baby took a bottle from one of them and took a sip. The beer was warm and kind of flat but she didn't care. "So Scout, too much for you?" she asked, practically challenging the other girl.
